September 26th, 2015 was proclaimed by Colorado Governor John W. Hickenlooper as Colorado Girls in Aviation Day. A day to promote the path to increasing participation through a collaborative effort by government, industry, and dedicated organizations and individuals designed to inspire and prepare female students through quality aerospace STEM curriculum and positive female role models.

The great state of Colorado is a wonderful place for pilots to fly. However, Colorado's rapidly-changing weather patterns can make flying very challenging. Proper information, equipment, and training are essential for pilots in order to safely fly in Colorado's mountains. Because of this, the Colorado Division of Aeronautics funds and administers a network of 12 mountain weather reporting sites along the high terrain of Colorado and the Continental Divide. Many of these locations are situated well above tree line at elevations above 12,000 feet above sea level.
