Bernie's Colorado Journeys; learns about the Santa Fe Trail in La Junta, Colorado - show #17

For this show I wanted to learn something about the Santa Fe Trail, which is in the Southeast corner of Colorado. I stopped about in the middle of the Trail in La Junta, Colorado. I chose La Junta because it has three venues that I wanted to get more information on, one is the Santa Fe Trail itself, second the National Historic Site known as Bent’s Old Fort, and three a narrated Amtrak rail ride that starts in La Junta and goes to Albuquerque. The section of the Santa Fe Trail that I explored is called the Mountain branch and is designated an American scenic and historic byway in Colorado. I figure the best way to learn about the Santa Fe Trail, Bent’s old fort and the Trails and Rails program was to sit down with Ranger Rick Wallner, Chief of interpretation at Bent’s Old Fort.
