Bernie's Colorado Journeys; learns about the Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site - show #19

I’m still traveling up and down the Front Range looking for fun things to see and do. In this show we’ll travel to the Colorado Springs city owned Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site that abuts the Garden of the Gods. The 230-acre property is a living history complex illustrating four consecutive time periods of Colorado Springs history, with each period represented by its own unique household.

1) American Indian life before there was a United States, before 1776.

2) A recreated 1860s homestead cabin (Galloway Homestead) follows.

3) The Chambers family was next in 1874, and the Rock Ledge House was built.

4) In 1907 the country estate called The Orchard House (White House Ranch) was built by General William Jackson Palmer (Founder of Colorado Springs, Colorado and builder of the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad) for an extended family member.

The Ranch was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. I talked with with Andy Morris, the Parks Operation Administrator of the Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site.
