Bernie's Colorado Journeys; learns about the MARBLE/marble Symposium in Colorado - show #25

Hi...this is your host, Bernie J of Bernie's Colorado Journeys, “Your Bridge to Adventure”. In this show we’ll travel to Marble, Colorado and with a population of less than 150 its just about at the end of the road; ~3 ½ hrs. from Denver and ~4 ½ hrs. from Colorado Springs, with either ride being “over hill and dale”. Yule Marble was first discovered in the Crystal River Valley in the spring of 1873. George Yule (for whom the marble was later named) was the prospector who "rediscovered" the marble in 1874. The reason for visiting Marble, Colorado is because I had “surfed” into a web site that talked about folks coming in from all over the world to the high mountains of Colorado to shape some of the best marble in the world into art. In 1989 a group of dedicated people lead by Madeline Wiener formed the MARBLE/marble (sculpting) Symposium. The first Symposium was 8 days long, had 32 participants and took place on land adjacent to the old marble mill site on the Crystal River, by 1993 the Symposium had grown to 3 - 8 day sessions, always in July, always on the same dates drawing an average of 45 people/session. Lets go to a talk I had with Madeline Wiener about marble and lets get dusty.
