LISTEN
Bernie’s Colorado Journeys; learns about the Old Spanish Trail - Show #8

I had the privilege of being invited to listen in on a meeting of like-minded people interested in the heritage of the old west and in the Ute Indian nation people.

The meeting was held at the Sky View Casino resort in Ignacio Colorado, which is located on the Southern Ute Indian Reservation, and is about 6 hours drive time south-west of Denver.

There were three separate groups represented at the meeting; one were folks interested in Ute prayer trees or another way of saying it, culturally modified trees.

The second group of people represented was the Old Spanish Trail Association (OST). The heyday of the OST was between 1829 and 1848.

The third group of people that were in attendance was people interested in the subject of dousing, with the use of a divining rod most commonly a Y shaped branch.

At the close of the meetings there was an evening banquet where a keynote address was given by a Utah resident a Northern Ute Elder, 80+ year-old Bob Chapoose Sr.

I hope that I've done some minor service by making the Elder Chapooses comments available for the rest of us to listen and ponder.
