Dr. Montgomery
In Project: Brainiacs

Dr. Penny Montgomery is our special guest today with Host Beth Kahmann to add expert discussion of how damage to specific areas of the brain can cause specific types of deficits, and also register specific types of brainwaves in neurofeedback sessions conducted at New Hope for the Brain in Lakewood, Colorado.

Brainwaves of people with brain injuries look entirely different from brainwaves of so-called "normal" folks with no brain injuries, as Dr. Montgomery will show today.

From her 40 years of practice in this field, Dr. Montgomery also discusses misdiagnoses, sometimes as Alzheimer's Disease, after an "event" such as a brain injury or skull fracture.

Using words we cannot spell or repeat accurately for you (maybe later?), Dr. Montgomery discusses how the Thalamus is wired to various parts of the brain responsible for speech and understanding of other folks' speech. Did you know that? I didn't. This could be me (Paula Rhoads, producer of Brainiacs).

Recorded May 31, 2013, this show is first broadcast from Denver Open Media Studio B on June 1, 2013, with Beth asking questions, and emphasizing thoughts occurring to her about her own brain injury and the injuries of others she knows.

New Hope for the Brain, a neurofeedback resource business in Lakewood, also offers speakers to help educate and edify the general public on just about any question you may have about brain health.  Why does it seem brain health has been missing from general public education and understanding for so long?

Should we all get a baseline brain wave patterns to store in someone's archive just in case something happens? How about just accurate diagnoses?

Have you watched Beth through several episodes? She thinks she is getting better for the neurofeedback treatment recently received. Hmmmm.  May 31, 2013
