DOM Gets More Social
We've added a few new features to the site you may have noticed and some you probably haven't. Everyone now sees that the names of users who've rated a specific show 5 stars show up at the bottom of the video. You can click on those usernames and at the bottom of their profile, you'll see the 10 shows they've most recently rated 5 stars.
I've also replaced the comments on the live stream page with a live chat that doesn't require refreshing the page (and interupting the stream) to post a comment. The chat area will automatically update when other users post to the chat. The chat will also display SMS messages during shows that support that like Key of D. The hope is that this will make it easier for users to talk to each other about a show they are watching. We are requiring users to sign-up and login to participate in that chat,
You may also notice that projects and shows now have much more human readable URLs like...
http://www.denveropenmedia.org/project/key_of_d
http://www.denveropenmedia.org/project/brainiacs
http://www.denveropenmedia.org/project/vlogtv
http://www.denveropenmedia.org/project/words_of_peace
http://www.denveropenmedia.org/project/creative-commons
http://www.denveropenmedia.org/project/sister-who-presents
The old node/number URLs still work, but this should make it easier to share and promote projects.
We've also started consolidating videos in related projects into a single project that allows multiple users to ingest videos into it. Owners of projects can now add additional users to contribute videos to their project by going to their project's page > click Edit > expand the Permission options > start typing the additional username (the system will look up and autocomplete the username). In addition to consolidating projects, we've started cleaning out old videos that never completed the ingest process. A big reason driving the house/server clean-up is to prepare for the upgrade to Drupal 6 and the new version of the tools we've been developing as part of the Open Media Project.
As we continue to make changes, let us know what you think.
