DVD Studio Pro Quick Guide

Use these instructions to create a basic DVD of your exported FCP project or .mov file.

**If you are working from your Xserve login on a computer that is not connected through fiber cable, ie, logged into your own account on Edit stations 2-5 and not logged in to the computer accounts such as DOMingest, DOMfcp or DOMadmin, you must follow the steps below before you continue to make your DVD.

  1. Export your project from Final Cut Pro: File--> Export--> Quicktime Movie
  2. Save your file onto the computer: Macintosh HD--> Users--> Shared
  3. Log out: Apple symbol (top left-hand corner of screen)--> Log out.
  4. Log in to DOMfcp, DOMingest or DOMadmin and locate your file: Macintosh HD--> Users--> Shared
  5. Follow the next steps to create a DVD with your file.

  1. Insert blank DVD (DVD-R tends to work best)

  2. Open DVD Studio Pro

  3. Click on: File--> Import--> Asset--> (find and select your.mov file, should be located in the capture scratch of your project, or, if you exported from Final Cut Pro, then wherever you saved). You should see the audio and video files pop into the "Assets" window.

     

  4. Click on the files and begin to drag them to the large, main window. The window should be blank at this point, but do not let go; you will see "Menu Options." When you do, let files drop into "Create Button and Track." Repeat if necessary (if you have more than one video clip).

     

  5. Click on your new video menu "button." On the right, you will see a window to stylize and create text. Keep it simple and type "Play."

    Do this for each "button."

     

  6. Click on "Simulate" to test the audio and video, and then close out of "Simulate."

  7. Click on: File--> Burn

  8. Wait

  9. Eject Disk

  10. Close out of the application

  • To compress Large Media files: Export using Compressor or if you have a Quicktime file you need to convert it to:mpeg-2 with dolby audio (data rate should be set to less than 7Mb/s to play in standard DVD players)
