Purpose: to boost the presence of Denver Open Media on the internet, so that the chances of our website being listed on a Google search or chosen from a list of links on someone else’s website is greater. This task is dependent upon the creation of a DOM links page, so please check with staff before starting.

1. Get online and use a large search engine like Google to run a search for websites that have something to do with media, public access, free speech, etc. The websites you find cannot be selling any products; they can only exchange of information on topics related to Denver Open Media and its mission.

2. Create an Excel spreadsheet on the shared server (ask a staffmember how to do this) that you can use to keep track of all websites found, contacted, and when you received a response, and what the response was. Be sure to also create a column for the contact information: web address, email address, phone number, name, etc.

3. Once you have the contact information for the websites you think would be a good match with Denver Open Media, compose a letter that is asking the website host if they would mind listing our website on their links page, in exchange we will do the same. Be sure to run the wording of this letter by the executive director so that we are properly represented.

4. Keep track of when you emailed the letter to certain websites on the spreadsheet. When you receive a response, no matter what the response is, record it on the spreadsheet. This is mainly so that we do not reapproach the same websites over and over.

5. Once you have permission for the exchange, meet with Brian, our web developer, to learn how to create the link.
