Creating a Disk ImageCreating a Disk Image


Start with a fresh software install and have all preferences, permissions, logins, passwords and accounts set up.
  1. Shutdown Target Drive/Disk, Reboot holding down "T" to make it boot as a Firewire drive and connect to laptop (host machine).
  2. Open Disk Utility on host machine.
  3. Select mounted drive.
  4. Select File-->New-->Disk Image from Folder.
  5. Select Target Drive
  6. Save as:
    • Name: ie. "Macintosh HD NLE"
    • Location: ie. External Firewire Drive
    • Image Format: Read/Write (very important)
    • Encryption: None

  • Shutdown Target Drive/Disk, Reboot holding down "T" to make it boot as a Firewire drive and connect to Laptop (host machine).
  • Open Disk Utility on host machine.
  • Click on Restore
    • Source is created image, DMG file
    • Destination is Computer Drive to be installed
    • Check Erase Destination
    • Check Sum makes sure images are identical
  • To remove license from FCP, go to Library-->App Support-->Pro Apps-->Finalcut Studio System ID and move to the Trash.
