GLAM Camp: Girls Learning About Multimedia (2008)
Denver Open Media is planning a camp for girls ages 14-17 to learn about video production. from August 4th-9th, 2008. During the camp, girls will get the opportunity to interview women from Denver about multimedia and technology while learning how to produce their own videos. Through these guest presenters, the girls will be able to network with other women in Denver and learn about a variety of ways to interact with multimedia. We are inviting professors, artists, graphic designers and a variety of other women to inspire these girls. This camp will also serve to break down the gender divide in technology by teaching girls at a young age to use cameras, lights, audio and editing equipment. We will also provide a list of resources for the campers of how to continue learning about multimedia. The camp’s culminating event will be a party that will showcase the girls’ final documentary. This party will be broadcast live on Denver Open Media, channel 57 on Friday, August 15th. Once complete, this project will be shared with other public access TV stations, in hopes that it can be duplicated in other areas.
Project to complete: A mini-documentary focused on women and media/technology. Girls will also be certified in Field Production and Final Cut Pro.
