Registration Fees: All DOM Certification
Classes currently being offered are priced as follows: Members: $75 per
class, paid at least 24 hours in advance. Non-Members: $150 per class,
paid at least 24 hours in advance. Become a DOM member today! There is an extra $25 charge for both members and non-members who register less than 24 hours in advance of the class. The only way to avoid this fee is to register in advance. Scholarships are available based on need.
Cancellation Policy: Students who have paid in advance
are entitled to a full refund if they cancel at least 24
hours in advance of the class. They may alternatively choose to
transfer their
registration fee to a different class, if space is available.
Students who cancel less than 24 hours before a class and students who
don't show up will not be entitled to a refund, and transfers will only
be approved at the discretion of Denver Open Media. This policy also
applies to members signing up using free classes included in their
organizational membership.
Minimum Enrollment: Minimum enrollment for DOM classes is 4
pre-paid students. In the event that minimum enrollment is not met, a
class will be canceled and students who have already registered will be
contacted at the phone number they provided when registering and are
entitled to a refund or,
if they choose, the registration fee can be transferred to a different
open class.
Scholarships: Individuals who demonstrate financial need and require a discount in order to take our classes should complete the educational scholarship application. (A Spanish version of the application is also available.) Please note that at this time, educational scholarships are only available to DOM members. You must have at least a Programming Membership in order to be eligible to receive a scholarship. Scholarships allow students to take a class for $25.00 and are distributed at the sole discretion of Denver Open Media. No more than 25 percent of a class can be made up of scholarship recipients. Once an applicant is approved by the education director, they will be notified via email and/or phone and instructed how to complete class registration.
Testing Out: If you have experience in field production or editing and would like to get certified without having to take a class, you may test-out of a particular certification area for a $25 fee. Please be sure that you know the material well enough to pass the test, because if you fail you will not be certified, and you will have to pay to take the certification class. The fee for the test-out will not be deducted from class fee. Test-outs are scheduled in groups. If you would like to test out of Field Production or Final Cut Pro, please view our upcoming schedule and email deb [at] deproduction [dot] org to secure your spot. You may not test out of Studio Production.
Review Classes: Members who have already been certified by DOM or Deproduction who want to take the same class to review the material, can do so at a discounted rate of $50 per class for Field and Studio production classes. No discounts will be offered for reviewing Final Cut Pro classes. If you would like to review a class please email deb [at] deproduction [dot] org.
Bounced Check Policy: If we receive a returned check from our bank for a payment that you made, you will be invoiced for the original amount of the check plus a $25 bank fee. The payment of the invoiced amount will be due within 30 days of invoice date. We will not re-submit the original check, nor will we accept another check for the re-payment. You will need to deliver cash or a money order to our office for the amount invoiced (either in person or by mail).
Policy on Class Promotion in Exchange for Free Classes:
Any DOM member or non-member can earn free classes at DOM by helping to promote DOM classes in the community. For every 7 students who register for a class as a result of a referral by one person, at either the full member or non-member price (not the scholarship rate), one free class will be awarded to the person who referred them.
Qualifying registrations must meet the following requirements:
- Seven (7) full referrals resulting in paid registration are required before any free class is allowed.
- There is no discount on classes for referring less than 7 people. For example, referring 3.5 people won’t get you half off a class.
- Registrations must be by members or non-members paying the full registration price (not the scholarship rate).
- If someone signs up for an organizational membership as the result of a referral, the classes included in that membership do not qualify for this exchange; only registrations at the full member or non-member price qualify for this exchange.
- Membership sign-ups that happen as a result of class referrals will not count towards free classes.
- Registrants must provide the full name of the person by whom they were referred at the time of registration.
- This policy applies to referrals and classes happening after January 25, 2007, and will not be grandfathered for past referrals.
Denver Open Media is always looking for experienced professionals to assist in teaching our certification workshops for the Public Access Station. The volunteers who assist in these classes are what enables us to keep the costs as low as possible and ensure that the station is accessible for as many people as possible. To show our appreciation for the work these special volunteers provide, we have devised the following rewards program for our volunteer instructors.
- 1st class: Lifetime certification in that area
- 2nd class: Programming membership
- 3rd class: DOM teacher's certificate
- 4th class: Editor, Field or Studio Membership
- 5th class: Denver Open Media t-shirt or a similar gift
- 6th class: Unlimited Membership
We here at DOM depend on our volunteers to make our station a success and want to compensate them accordingly. Denver Open Media provides a great community of educators, media makers, forward-thinkers and all around good-time people; we would love for you to join our team.
* Every class taught after the 6th class results in a free class for either the teacher him/herself or an individual of their choosing.
* If a year has elapsed and your membership expires:
- a teacher must teach 1 class in order to renew a programming membership
- a teacher must teach 2 classes in order to renew an editor membership
- a teacher must teach 3 classes in order to renew an unlimited membership
If you would like to volunteer to help teach one of our classes, please send your experience in the area of Field production, Studio production, or Final Cut Pro editing to certification [at] deproduction [dot] org. And if you are sitting there, wondering "Am I qualified enough?" send us your resume right now because you probably are. Thanks!
DCTV Producers:
DCTV producers who were certified in field production through DCTV may use this certification at Deproduction/Denver Open Media. This only applies to field certification, since DCTV only ever taught one FCP class, and their studio certification won't apply in our studios, which are quite different.
We encourage everyone to sign up for our new classes, but DCTV field graduates
can have access to the equipment they were trained/certified on. As we get new equipment at Deproduction/DOM, new certification will be necessary.
